In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Half and Half.”
Yesterday I had a sudden desire to visit the sea. After all, I think it’s been one whole month since the last time I’ve been to one. And that’s too long in my books! So I packed and shot to the one beach that I rarely ever visit, the iconic Marina. It’s a humongous beach that seems to stretch as far as your eyes can see on both sides but the reason I’m not so fond of it is actually two-fold. One, it’s so wide that is takes at least twenty minutes to walk to the shore from where you get off. And two, crazy crowds!! If peace and mental reflection is what you’re looking for, then this is definitely not the place you want to go.
But these are the exact places that provide the best opportunities for some candid photography and I returned home with lots of photos of people and absolutely zero photos of the sea. This one below, I immediately liked because I realized I’ve never actually shot a crow before. 🙂 Just the way it stood atop the fishing boat, scanning the sand for scraps of food, I thought it was fascinating.
In terms of the theme Half-and-half. I think this photo captures two worlds nicely.
The liveliness of the beach, and the wonder that is the Sky.
I am like you, don’t like crowded places at all. Just imagine, had there been no/less people, you could have captured sunset beautifully!
Good job with the prompt though!

Thanks! : ) Yesterday I wasn’t looking for inner peace per se, so I risked visiting this beach, otherwise I would have gone for some other quiet and less known places.
And I agree, people always clutter a photograph but I had no other go. Whichever way I turned my phone, there were people! :O

Neither am I 😛 I don’t even give that impression to people I suppose as I shoot with my smartphone.

You have given a very clever description for the take “half and half”. The combination of liveliness and wonder; they are kind of present at both sides. Nice one.! 🙂

Ah thanks! 🙂 You’re right, there’s a bit of both in both.

How you even think of these things is beyond my mind. Really.

For half and half, you thought of this photo. That in itself is beyond me.

I remember Marina Beach – it was the first beach outside Kerala that I ever visited 😀

Thanks! But Marina is actually the worst beach you could visit around Chennai. My hideout is usually at Mahabalipuram, less crowded and the water’s better! 😀 Btw, I’ve been meaning to visit Varkala beach for a while now. What’s your opinion on it?

I have been to Mahabalipuram; but didn’t see the beach; got lost with the temple architecture 🙂
Varkala is a fine choice; it was very clean and there is also some nice view from the hill. There are many interesting beaches around. Is it the only one you are visiting?

I got attracted by that cliff in Varkala actually! 🙂 And yes, as of now that is the plan as it is going to be a very short trip! Let’s see if I can snuck in any other nearby places.

I would say that it is my favourite beach in the South of Kerala! 🙂 It has a special look.
