My Lollipop Obsession

Is there an age limit for enjoying lollipops?

I mean, I never thought about it till now you see. I had always merrily gobbled up on lollipops whenever I lay my eyes on them. Because, 1) sweet tooth here and 2) it comes on a stick. So handy and ergonomic!

So imagine my surprise when – ok, let me start at the very beginning. I’d gone to my sister’s college this Sunday you see. They had a PTA meeting (yes, for a Bachelor’s degree student no less) and my sister asked if I’d like to tag along with my dad. I said, why not! It’s been a while since I’ve been to a college anyway. Let me see the naive student faces once again!

So I go to the college canteen and my eyes immediately lock with the hoard of Jolly Rancher lolipops in all flavors on display! I immediately yelled, ‘TAKE MY MONEY!!’ and got myself a Watermelon and an Apple flavored one. (In case you’re wondering, Watermelon rules them all.)

Anyhoo, my sister was examining this whole ordeal with disdain from afar. And then said coldly, “Don’t eat them in front of everybody.”

Which got me stumped.

And then I thought. A 24 year old man, with a lollipop in mouth. Probably not a very good sight. I had an out-of-body experience right then. I saw myself from outside, how I’d appear and what people would think.

But then I also thought, well screw them all! I love lollipops and I should be able to enjoy them irrespective of what others think. If the universe is not ready to accept that, then that’s not my problem.

So I opened the lollipop and stomped around the college with no care in the world.

Oh and I also bought a couple more Watermelon ones before leaving. These things rock.
