The Sunshine Award

Archana is so fed up with my sunrise photos that she thought giving me The Sunshine Award will shut me up once and for all!! No luck there, my dear.

Hehe, just kidding. 😛 I’m sure she loves them as much as I do. 🙂

So here’s a big thanks to Archana for considering me for this nomination! She’s a darling and an enthusiastic blogger and writes some really thoughtful posts so do check out her blog.

So today I’m gonna break all the rules. First of all, I’m not gonna post the rules. And second of all, I’m not gonna nominate anyone. Perverted, you think I am. But the thing is that I do realize that these award tags can be quite daunting for a lot of people and many have even made their blogs award-free so I’m not gonna burden you any further. Anyway, I do not have to specifically call out anyone here. All of you who have stood by me and encouraged me to go on, I consider an eternal sunshine in my life. So thank you, for everything.

Anyway, the big reason I’m doing this post is to answer Archana’s questions. Yea, call me a nerd or whatever but I absolutely love answering questions. I have always been that way, and school hasn’t really worn off on me I suppose. I used to be the kid who’d take a boat load of additional sheets to elaborately answer all the questions in an exam. I always pulled a Hermione during those times. 😛

So onto the questions now, without further ado:

What is something about you that you normally don’t say while describing yourself?

That I’m an atheist. I usually don’t make it very apparent to the people around me that I don’t believe in a god. I know it’s a very personal thing and I am no one to judge or try to convert anyone. So I will try my best not to have religious debates unless some one really starts to get on my nerves. Or if somebody uses religion as an excuse to hurt an other person. Because that is something that I can never tolerate.

If given the chance, would you travel back or forward in time?

What an interesting question. I would do both!!! I’ve always been fascinated by kingdoms, rulers, forts, war etc so would love to go back to a period where I’m a citizen in a big and prosperous kingdom. Perhaps around 15th century.

Another fantasy of mine is the period of Renaissance in Italy. To walk around with maestros such as Da Vinci, Michaelangelo, Bernini – it gives me goosebumps.

And future? Why not? Take me to 2147 please. I want to see the the 200th anniversary of Indian Independence Day celebrations.

What’s something you can never leave the house without?

My earphones. And my wristwatch. I’m quite time conscious and am infamous for checking the time every ten minutes or so.

What is your favourite way to pass time?

Umm let’s see. Reading. But you know that already. I also spend more than seventy percent of my life in front of a computer. Coding, while in office. Random shit, while at home.

What is something you have always wanted to learn?

Guitar!!! But never got around to it. It’s my favourite instrument of all and I can just listen to guitar strums for hours and hours together without getting bored. I also watch how-to-play-guitar videos on Youtube a lot even though I do not own a guitar currently! I’m that crazy.

So that’s a wrap! I hope I did okay! And thanks for reading.

Oh, and here’s a sunset. You knew it was coming!

  1. “I used to be the kid who’d take a boat load of additional sheets to elaborately answer all the questions in an exam”; “Earphones and watch and checking time every 10 min”; “crazy about guitar but never learnt it”….you are my alter ego or what!!! :-o. Minor diff, I own a guitar, yet never learnt anything more than just the basics and didn’t do anything about it either. . Going back in time, You must have loved the movie Midnight in Paris…?

    • Haha, I think we’ve already established that. 😉 I’m dying to get my hands on a guitar actually, though I’m holding off as I know that I won’t have time right now to go to formal classes and stuff. I think there is only so much one can learn online. But you should definitely pursue it further! It’s a marvelous instrument. On a related note, do you think girls usually get more attracted towards guys who play the guitar? 😛

Shameful me, I haven’t seen that movie yet! 😦 😦 Will watch it soooon!

      • Lol. I guess ya, it does add a zing to you if you know how to play a guitar. In fact, I think the attractiveness quotient multiplies if you hold a guitar, regardless of gender. Don’t you think? 🙂

      • True true. But since I’m already playing guitar, it would be better if she plays the violin (which is my second favourite!). A man can dream 😛 😀

  2. I used to be the girl who writes till the examiner snatches away your paper. Still am. I routinely hear, “WTF, dude! That was a 25 mark test. What ever were you writing?” XD And I still look for my watch when someone asks me what time it is, even though I have a phone and everything. A phone shows time but a phone isn’t a watch. How hard is that to understand?
Renaissance!! daVinci!! *zones out for a couple of eons* And also to Kurukshetra when the Mahabaratha war happened. Take me also. Please?! You know I’m wondering if maybe you’re like my long lost brother or something, Like in some old Tamil films? Do you have a family song or something? Like How? All this while, I thought I was the only one whose thought processes were this much twisted!

    • Et tu, Vanchu?

It’s eerily creepy, I tell you. All these days, I thought I was the most unique person with such a versatile thought process that it wasn’t humanely possible to for anyone else to be the same. Can I be blamed? People around me usually seemed childish in comparison. But here I’ve come to realize that there are a lot of people out there who think in the same way as me. It’s just bad luck that we don’t get to meet people like us in real life. I have WordPress to thank for it, for giving me so many soul-sisters and brothers. It does feel like we share the same DNA and all, ain’t it? 🙂 Maybe we can invent a family song 😛

If and when they invent a time machine, I will set it to Florence, Year 1505 and we will GO! 😀 We can watch Leonardo paint the Mona Lisa!

I write till the final millisecond too. And yea, shooting my hand into the air and asking ‘Mam, additional!’ during an exam was such a pleasure! 😛

      • I know. I always used to feel alone and there came a point when I just gave up trying to fit in! I’m weird, take it or leave it World. Until my blog happened. I see so many like me here, it’s a whole new universe. One where I feel like I belong!
Watch Leonardo paint the Mona Lisa!! That sounds so *Wide 139374947 teeth grin* good.
I know right! XD But here in Medschool, most of them are like that. It’s Nerds Galore! -.- I miss being the only one to have all the right answers and wierd questions. Hmph!

      • Ah, that’s a bummer! But at least that’s a lot better than being surrounded by dudderheads.

And yea, I do feel the same. That I finally found a place where I belong. I tried fitting in, didn’t work out because I hated changing myself for others. I am me, with all of my craziness, if that’s too ‘odd’ for others then it’s not my problem!

      • Ohh, there are enough dudderheads alright. Trust me when I tell you, I have seen exceptionally new levels of dumbness and intelligence, sometimes from the same person!

(No, you cannot have my Milano. I don’t share chocolate cookies on principle 😀 :P)

  3. Congratulations on receiving the award! I think that now even you are bored of receiving awards. It seems that a “No Awards, Please” notice on your blog is coming.

  4. Great post. Congratulations on receiving this award. It’s funny how these award questions really give the bloggers an opportunity to speak about themselves in ways they normally wouldn’t.

    • Thanks and that’s totally true. If we weren’t asked, we would never think of voluntarily divulging such info about ourselves! That’s one of the reasons I love doing these award posts! 🙂

  5. Your sunset/ sunrise photographs will and shall never get old. ;D
Haha I love that you really wanted to answer the questions =D I mean of course I wanted to read them!
The thing with awards is that I don’t have the heart to decline anything said by anyone who supports me in what I do. Plus, the questions are usually super fun too xP
Didn’t know you were a history guyy! Lol anyway, loved the answers.
Keep doing your thing, Uday =)

I love receiving awards too though I do get super procrastinatey (I just invented that) about doing the posts.

I’m not a history guy, I’m an art guy. That’s what draws me towards Renaissance or ancient India for that matter. Ask me about battles and who ruled which kingdom, I’ll draw a blank! 😉

  6. Uday, it’s really surprising to see so many of us with the same quirks. I too fall in the same category: writing elaborate answers in the exam, checking watch every 10 minutes. I am also an atheist.I guess that’s the power of writing out our thoughts. It gives us opportunity to meet like minded people.

    • Haina? I’m quite surprised at the number of people who are identifying themselves with what I write. It’s strange but cool! And you are an atheist too! Fab, I say!

  7. Oh, God! I also used to take loads of additional answer sheets thinking what if the exam hall run out of additional sheets? That was one of my worst nightmares – thinking I wouldn’t be able to finish an exam coz there were no extra sheets available.

And, I would love to travel to period were Cholas and Pandyas ruled Tamil Nadu, more precisely the period around which Ponniyin Selvan was written. Then, of course Da Vinci. To be around him when he conceptualized flying machines and anatomy!!

    • Oh it was my nightmare too. I used to always keep an eye on the additional stack to see if it’s getting depleted and would go and take multiple sheets beforehand in fear that others might take it 🙂 Lol, the times!

Da Vinci, totally! He’s an absolute genius and my hero.
